Will Code for Green

About Green Rhino

I wanted a website I could use to quickly find out the state of both the global economy and that of a handful of countries. It wasn't until I found the Microsoft / Gnomedex Will Code for Green contest that I decided to do something about it.

I've always felt that one of the best things anyone can do, in any economy, is stay informed. With enough information from as many sources as possible, one should be able to predict where markets are heading and respond to any problems coming their way. Leveraging the Bing™ API to perform web searches, news searches and even a Twitter search (yes, even the Twitter search uses Bing™), Green Rhino helps the user stay informed easily.

Why "Green Rhino"?

I couldn't decide on a name for the site so I started looking up slang for "money." One of the words I found (and had never head before) was "Rhino." Since, as far as I know, it is a rarely used reference to money, I thought I would tack "Green" on the front to make it clearer, and thus Green Rhino was born.

How Do I Vote for Green Rhino in the Contest?

So you want to vote for Green Rhino to win, eh? How nice of you! I've actually created a post on my blog to walk you through the voting process, step by step. However, the short version is, you register and then vote.

Please note, however, that public voting ends at midnight on August 12th, 2009. If you are attending Gnomedex, and assuming I make the semi-finals, be sure to drop a vote for Green Rhino there!

It's too late, the voting is done. You can see the winners here. I'm not of them.... sigh. At least I got an honerable mention though. That's something, right? Right?!

I have to say that I don't fully agree with some of the ones that Microsoft picked for the semi-finals. I'm not saying that I deserved to be there, but simply that there were some better sites that should have made it. That said though, congrats to all those that did win!

How Can I Get In Touch with You?

The easiest way to get in touch with me is via Twitter. I check tweets pretty regularly, so if you include an @w33ble, I should reply to you pretty quickly.
